Today is the 4th of Syawal. My memory suddenly turned to Azmi Abidin. I have written about Azmi (and Nawi Omar) in this blog on 17August 2007 when he underwent the cancer surgery.
Azmi passed away on 1st September 2009, the 3th day of Ramadhan. I was planning to visit him on my return from Berlin Germany. I can still remember vividly when he phoned me just before I left to Berlin on 1st August to attend a training. He aplogised to me for not informing me about his mother's passing a few weeks before that. I told him it's OK and for him to take care of himself.
Aishah (his wife) told me that she wanted Azmi to tell me that he was not eating well but Azmi did not tell me during the conversation.
It was when I saw Dato Rosli's email that prompted me to vist me. I was supposed to drive up with Faizal on Sunday but felt tired and intended to fly on Wednesday with Fathil Shariff on Wednesday.
It was while searching for airticket on Tuesday evening that I received news about his passing. I flew with Anoiair Jalil and Fathil the next morning and travelled with Salleh Yusuf from Alor Star airport. Many STAROBS from the north came to pay their last respects.
Azmi has been my great friend since schooldays. In addition I spent a number of my school holidays at his home. I know his familiy well. His father is a very nice and humble man. His mother was lovely lady and a great cook. Meals at Azmi's house is something that I really looked forward when I stayed there those days.
My friendship with Azmi lasted untuil his passing away. We were great friends in school and were housemates (Blue house). He was a great volleyball player. Even though he was a big sized guy he was a very humble and kind at heart.
To Allayarham Azmi, may Allah bless you my friend. Thank you for being part of my life as a great friend. May Allah grant you the forgiveness.
